The top pic is from around 2008 or so, playing in the kitchen. The bottom pic is me practicing in the garage this year… a bit grayer, and definitely no wiser. Being a double-bassist is still a part of my self-identity, and now that I’m semi-retired, I’m aiming to practice up to where I can once again ‘play out’ semi-professionally (read: for pay). It’s just another of my many collective interests in the arts…

Should you happen to need a double-bassist in the near future, here’s my present status: I started playing with the Butte, MT Symphony last year for their 75th anniversary season, and am continuing for the 2025-2026 season. I can play anything with enough time to practice, but I’m still a bit weak on sight-reading and very weak on improvisation… which hopefully practice will fix!
