Art installation, untitled, Galen McAllister, mixed media 2026 (above): Part of an exhibit at the Holter Museum of Art titled “Seek the Sun”. This was a Group Show featuring works inspired by a painting titled “Golden Sunlight” by Nolan Salix, depicting the terraced walls of the Golden Sunlight open pit mine (near Whitehall, Montana; the painting is visible on the end wall). The exhibit is meant to highlight both the beauty and the destruction of the Western United States’ landscape. My part consisted of a metric tonne of rock arranged in the trail you see here, with a stand holding approximately 1.8 grams of gold dust, along with some explanatory signs (The Golden Sunlight had to process that much rock to obtain that small amount of gold - yet it was still profitable). The stands and signs are my work, but I cannot claim credit for creating the rock and gold dust.
